Resurgence Brewing

Buffalo, NY - US
Buffalo, more than just chicken wings

Venue

Buffalo has more than just hot wings; it has hot wings paired with great beer! Just a stone's throw away from the Buffalo River and the eastern edge of Lake Erie is the home of Resurgency Brewing. A place where warehouse industrial meets elegance, and on the right day, a very rambunctious amount of Giants fans.

Resurgency Brewing is a massive warehouse-style brewery and taproom. The U-shaped building features a charming and relaxing dog-friendly patio space, accessible from the rear of the building. The patio is actually a shared space with their neighbor, Hartman's Distilling. Due to the building's shape, the patio resembles a long back alley; however, it is well-maintained and offers various forms of relaxing seating. There are a handful of gas fire pits as well as an assortment of patio tables and picnic tables that stretch both sides of the "U" shaped building.

On the inside, you will find two massive bars with the beautiful backdrop of the actual brewing facility. The overall aesthetic is excellent, featuring a tasteful blend of industrial lighting and a subtle touch of elegance throughout the design, complemented by crystal chandeliers. On the proper front entrance side of the building, you will find the brewery's merchandise and a few coolers selling to-go beers. On the opposite side, you will find the small kitchen that serves up many amazing dishes. For the overall dining and drinking experience, the tables inside are primarily high-top seating, with very few regular tables available beyond the bar, which is located next to the brewing equipment.

The particular location is officially a 'dogs outside only' area. Still, upon speaking with the workers, the rules seem to be lax, as a few puppy parents had their dogs inside anyway. We recommend the latter and plan to sit outside. For this particular visit, we were at the end of summer, and although it was a hot day, the patio's location received very little sunlight, keeping the patio quite cool.

On the food front, Resurgance does not disappoint. This was our second time visiting the brewery, and we had to come back because of the food. The mac and cheese with chicken and the chicken sandwich were just simply amazing. But if you're in Buffalo, you can't go wrong with a plate of Buffalo wings.

Dog Experience

The dog experience at Resurgance is always great. Ein loves it here as it is always welcoming. The staff at the brewery always stop by to see her, even those who can sneak away from the bar for a minute to give her a scritch. During this visit, a few other dogs were on the patio, but everyone got along. One surprise: this is one of the first breweries we have ever visited that did not offer dog bowls for water directly. Not a massive issue for us, but those looking to go for a walk by the river or lake and plan to stop later might want to be sure to pack something for their four-legged friends.

Beers

Now for the beer. Resurgence Brewing consistently offers a wide selection of beers, with a particular emphasis on pilsners and IPAs during our summer visit. However, as a local brewery, we can always recommend a good Wit, Bock, or Ale if you can catch them at the right time. During this particular visit, the standout drinks were the Blue Raspberry Shandy and the CitMo IPA. CitMo is a stable beer from Resurgance and a great all-around Hazy IPA. The star, though, had to be the Blue Raspberry Shandy, which, yes, is a bluish green beer. It definitely stands out as St. Patrick's Day has already passed, but this fruity drink was a great treat in the middle of summer.

Final Thoughts

Buffalo is the second-largest city in New York, and there are tons of breweries to choose from. But for us, Resurgence was the first brewery that came to mind as we traveled home from our Ohio vacation. This particular inner-city brewery offers many of the nicest perks you could ask for—plenty of parking, good vibes, and great beer. For those cutting through or staying for the big game, we highly recommend stopping by.
